New to Monyhull Church? A Church in Birmingham
Attending services and meetings doesn’t make anyone a Christian. The message of the Bible is not that we can make ourselves right before God, but that God Himself has done everything necessary to enable us to have a relationship with Him through the finished work of His Son, Jesus Christ. So whilst going to church services doesn’t make us right before God, Christians love to meet with each other to learn, grow and praise God together - and we would love you to join us!
We have two services each Sunday. Our morning service starts at 11am and normally finishes around 12:15pm. Often we’ll sing a few songs just before the service begins as people arrive and find their seats.
We begin the service singing, spending time praying to God and reading the Bible together. There is then often something specifically aimed at the children before they leave the service to attend their Sunday School classes. The remainder of the service is devoted to studying the Bible and someone (usually one of our Ministry Team, or a visiting speaker) will preach for 30-40 minutes.
Our evening service begins at 6:30pm. The format is basically the same with singing, Bible reading, prayer and preaching. Although there isn’t a Sunday School during the evening meeting, a good number of children regularly attend and both you and your children would be very welcome to join us.
Every church is different and the best way to find out what Monyhull is like is to join us one Sunday! But if we were to describe Monyhull in four words, we are:
- a teaching church – we believe our most important task is to learn from and obey God’s Word, the Bible. Because of this, preaching is at the centre of our worship services and the Bible is the foundation upon which every ministry at Monyhull is based;
- a contemporary church – we believe that the message of the Bible is not only timeless and unchanging but also culturally-relevant and contemporary. We therefore use a modern version of the Bible (the NIV) in our services and, although we sing both modern and traditional hymns and songs, we normally use updated words for the older hymns. Similarly, we treasure both modern music styles and more traditional music to accompany older hymns;
- a community church – we believe that we should be helping and supporting our local community. Being involved with our community is both an expression of our Christian faith and a means through which God’s love for the world can be shared and shown in action; and
- a mission-minded church – we believe the great task of the church is to make Jesus known. As such, we have an active programme of local evangelism as well as an enthusiastic commitment to world mission.
