The main focus of our Sunday gatherings is the hearing of God's word as we believe that it is through his word taught that God particularly meets with his people. In terms of our worship style, while we are enthusiastic singers we do not identify with the emphasis of some churches where the larger part of meetings is given over to sung praise.
We believe that we have a biblical duty to be constantly aware of changing culture, and therefore have no hesitation in using modern worship music and modern worship songs alongside more traditional hymns. As long as these are biblically accurate and musically suitable, we consider them as much God's gift to his people as the hymns of previous generations. We also believe that a whole variety of musical instruments are permissible to accompany worship, and none are more 'holy' than others.
One reflection of these convictions is that we have adopted the Praise! hymnbook as our hymnbook of choice. We have greatly appreciated its inclusion of many excellent modern hymns, its sensitive re-wording of older hymns and its recovery of many hymns that would otherwise be lost to the church.
