We are privileged to have six Elders who have oversight of the running of the church. Two of these are full time employees (Colin Tamplin and Andy Cole) and they have a particular responsibility for vision and Biible teaching.
We also employ a full time Church Manager (Vince White) who works alongside the Elders and together with the full time Elders forms a Ministry Team.
Colin is the Senior Pastor of Monyhull Church. He is married to Hayley, and they have two grown-up children, Dan and Bethan.
Colin was born in Bolivia, South America, where his parents were long term missionaries. He came to faith as a young child, largely through his parents' consistent example and faithful Bible teaching.
When he was 13 he returned with his parents to the UK, and settled in Birmingham which had been his mother's home city. After finishing secondary school, he was employed by British Leyland where he worked for several years in their computer department.
Colin trained for pastoral ministry at Bryntirion, South Wales (now WEST) from 1986-88 and then took up the ministry at Stroat Evangelical Church, just outside Chepstow in South Gloucestershire. After six years there he returned to Birmingham in 1995 to become the first pastor of the South Birmingham Evangelical Church, now Monyhull Church, which had been founded five years earlier.
In addition to the pastoral ministry, Colin is involved with the FIEC and was until recently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
His other interests include reading political thrillers, watching obscure documentaries, supporting Aston Villa, playing the guitar and messing around with the 'charango' (a Bolivian mandolin). His favourite possession in the whole world is his sat-nav, which has more than compensated for his complete lack of any sense of direction!
Vince joined Monyhull in 1990 and served as an Elder from 2010 until 2016. Now employed as Church Manager, Vince's responsibilities are the church’s finance and administration plus involvement in aspects of our work in the community. Vince enjoys most sports, but mostly from the sofa rather than participation these days! Vince and his wife, Lis, have three grown-up children.
Andy is the Associate Pastor of Monyhull Church. He is married to Julia, and they have two young children, Elijah and Abigail.
He grew up in Somerset and became a Christian at the age of 16. After leaving school, he trained for 4 years as an apprentice electrician before studying electronics and computing at Nottingham Trent University. In 1995 he moved to Birmingham to work as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry and became a member of Monyhull Church.
In 2009, the church sent and supported Andy to train for pastoral ministry. He and his family moved to South Wales so he could study at Wales Evangelical School of Theology. Following his studies Andy trained as the assistant pastor at Freeschool Court Evangelical Church. Then in September 2013 he accepted a call back to Birmingham to become the associate pastor of Monyhull Church.
Andy loves reading, movies and exploring the great outdoors with his family. He has never played for Man Utd.
Stephen and his wife Pat, have been members at Monyhull since 2004 and Stephen became an Elder in 2007. In addition to being a member of the Pastoral Support Team, Stephen teaches the senior Sunday School class and is regularly involved in the music group. Having worked as a GP since 1977, Stephen retired in 2012. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys playing and listening to music, spending time with his grandchildren and reading Christian biographies, Puritan classics and more recent publications.
Gaz settled at Monyhull in 1997 and met his wife, Debs, through Teknos (now 116) which they co-led. Gaz has been interested in the worldwide church since he was 14 and has spent time in DR Congo and Kenya. Since Gaz became an Elder in 2010, he and Debs have led Monyhull’s Global Partners ministry, in addition to leading a Home Group. When he’s not working as a surveyor in the city centre, Gaz loves to spend time with Debs and their two children, Phoebe and Joshua, as well as being a West Bromwich Albion fan and playing his Fender Stratocaster!
Don was one of the founding members of Monyhull and has been an Elder since the Church was formed in 1989. Don and his wife, Jenny, are responsible for the Pastoral Support Team and Monyhull's Home Groups. Having spent over 40 years in insurance, Don has just retired and is looking forward to having more time to read, study, visit, preach, travel, garden and cook! His other hobbies include playing the guitar, keeping fit and drinking coffee!
John and his wife, Ruth, were founding members of the Church and John was appointed an Elder in 1989. Having retired from a career as a technical representative which included sales, business development and training, John is now involved in a number of different ministries across the Church. In addition to being a Home Group leader, John is a member of the Global Partners team and Premises committee. His main interests, apart from the Church, are his family, reading, gardening and photography.
